Wedding favor

Finally, as promised, I’m writing this post about my wedding favors. I was thinking of a nice and unique idea for wedding favors and I decided that I wanted a rose with a ferrero chocolate in the middle. So I was looking online and I searched everywhere and I couldn’t find any tutorials or anything about making a ferrero on a rose.

In the end, I decided to create my own. I searched for tutorials online and on youtube on how to make paper roses. I tried making many different ones to find the perfect rose that I wanted. Finally, I found it!! I practiced for a bit and then decided that I can totally do it. So I went about to buy all the materials.

At first it took me like 10-15 minutes to make one flower. Then as I got better, I could make one in 5 minutes! In total, I made 220 flowers. So that equals to about 23 hrs of work put into it just to make the flowers. I took about a week making them. Working on it after work and while I watch TV. This is not including putting on the tags and the chocolate. >.<

Looking back at it, it was a lot of work but I was very satisfied with the end result. I hope everyone who went to the wedding dinner loved it too.

Cross Stitch Crazy – His Eye Is On The Sparrow

I just finished another precious moments design by Gloria and Pat few weeks ago. This one is from book 37 (PM-37) and its called “his eye is on the sparrow”.

This design is bigger than my previous one. Its stitched on Aida 14 with a 89 x 113 count. This took me about a month I think with the normal 2-3 hrs a day because I didn’t work on it everyday.

This pattern also took longer than usual because the backstitches are in different colors which is closer to the original color the stitches are done. In the older books, all the backstitches are done in one color. So for this I had to constantly switch colors which took more time.

One thing I didn’t like from this is that sometimes they are not really clear as to which part is supposed to be backstitched in which color. Or maybe I’m too stupid to understand >.< I guess I need more practice. hehe

DMC Floss

Lot of DMC floss

Lot of DMC floss

So excited! Just bought a whole bunch of DMC floss on ebay. The price was cheaper than buying it in stores. I guess the only drawback is that you can’t pick colors if you want it cheap.

I bought a whole lot of 225 skeins for 71 USD with free shipping and the seller gave me 3 skeins for free. That breaks it down to 31 cents each. The cheapest I can find online is 44 cents each not including shipping and tax.

The next thing to do is shop around for a way of organizing them. I’ve found some different options online. Gonna order them and start organizing everything.

Update on pictures after I’ve done everything. =)

Cross Stitch Crazy – Love is Kind

I did a pattern from the Gloria and Pat Precious Moments books (PM-2). Relatively simple pattern. I stitched it on Aida 14 (5 5/8 x 4 1/4) using DMC 6-strand cotton floss. 2 strands for normal stitching and 1 strand for backstitch. Forgot how long this took me but I think its around 1 week with about 2-3 hours put in everyday while I watch TV.

I made some small mistakes and it was too late to re-do when I noticed it so I just left it. Hopefully my next one will be better!

I changed the color of the shoes to a darker brown because I forgot to buy it and I’m too lazy to wait for the next order. I’ve tried going to the shops to look for floss but its really expensive. The shop I found sells them for about 60 cents each without tax.

After that, I looked around online and ordered from www.everythingcrossstitch.com. One floss sells for 49 cents and shipping depends on the amount you buy but fairly reasonable. It is good if you buy a lot. Arrive really quick too.

After finishing this pattern, I did more searches online and found another place, www.123stitch.com that have it for even cheaper! 44 cents each. Shipping is a bit more than the other site but same as above, if you buy a lot, it makes up for it. Usually i order about 20 different floss per order. Shipping is really fast too. About 3-4 days.

What I like about these two sites is that I can choose each individual color floss that I need. I’ve found some sites that  only sell them at batches of like 10 or more colors each.

Maybe I’ll look around more and try to find some other better sites for my next project.

Eggy Easter!

Easter is coming up soon and I haven’t got any eggs painted yet. I have to admit that I’m not that creative so I tend to ‘steal’ ideas from the internet. This time, I would like to do something different, rather than the normal boring polka dot pattern.

I saw one of the characters in Alice in Wonderland and find it quite cute. I was thinking of doing something like that too but I’m not that good when it comes to painting. I searched for ways to make egg-painting easier and came across this tool called the ‘Egg-Bot‘.

It is an easy to use art robot that can draw round object that range in size from ping pong balls to small grapefruits using art pens. I think I really need one of those. I’m going to need to stop procrastinating and start brainstorming for ideas!

Perler Beads / Hama Beads

For the past few days, I’ve been experimenting with Perler beads. Another name for it would be Hama beads. You arrange them on a pegboard and melt them with an iron and they would stick together and form a pattern that you’ve arranged them in. My first one wasn’t that nice because I melted it too much but I’ve tried making bigger ones and I have to say that they turned out to be quite nice. You can make them in 2D and if you think you’ve gotten quite good at it, you can try making 3D ones. The finished product can be used as a necklace, earrings, a key chain and even coasters. The beads come in lots of colours and sizes. They have sizes ranging from small ones for adults to large ones for kids. No worries that you child might think it’s candy and eat it! It’s fun to arrange the colourful beads and see the pattern forming. So far, I’ve only made a few but I’m going to make more of them soon!
