We went to Anchor & Hope for their happy hour last week. It is kinda located in an alleyway between 1st and 2nd Street. I only knew about this place because a co-worker recommended it. This is actually a seafood restaurant and they have oysters and stout for happy hour here.
As we walked in, I was kinda surprised as it doesn’t feel like a happy hour place. It is more like an upper class restaurant but yet wasn’t too fancy. The price is reasonable too. There was 8 of us and we ordered 2 rounds of the Half Dozen Oyster & Pint of Irish Stout. I didn’t try the fresh oysters. I hate things that are slimy but from the looks of the others, it seemed like they enjoyed it a lot.
We also ordered the stuffed peppers with tuna. It was just alright in my opinion and the portions are kinda small. The best thing that we got was the “Angels on Horseback”. This is basically just the oyster wrapped in bacon and then deep fried. It was so yummy!! The bacon was nice and crispy but when you bite into it, you can still taste the rawness of the oyster. It was amazing. This was the one and only time that I felt that oyster actually taste good. haha.
Another thing that I really liked from here is the Anchor & Hope House-Cut fries with malt vinegar aioli. I have no idea what it is but the sauce is so good. Its kinda like a thousand island mixed with malt vinegar. The fries by itself is pretty good also. It tastes like it was seasoned with salt and pepper. For drinks, we just ordered the Trumer Pils which was like normal beer. I’m not too big of a beer fan to tell the difference.
Overall, I think I would come here again for the angels on horseback and the fries. Yummy! For more information, you can visit their site at: http://anchorandhopesf.com
